What is the Progressive Dog Club show?
The Progressive Dog Club’s January shows are the famous table show: two Toy-group limited-breed shows held in the Grand Ballroom of The New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan. Instead of a convention-center floor, Toy breeds are examined on tables in a grand ballroom — the traditional format, and one of the most distinctive settings in American dog shows.
It runs the weekend before Westminster, in the same city, so many of the country’s top Toy exhibitors and judges are already in New York. In 2025 the Saturday show included the Yorkshire Terrier Club of Greater New York’s designated specialty, and the Toy Group show was streamed live on AKC.tv.

Attending in person
The New Yorker Hotel is at 481 8th Ave, across from Madison Square Garden and a short walk from Penn Station — the shows happen inside the hotel itself. Spectator and streaming details for 2027 haven’t been announced; the 2025 edition streamed live on AKC.tv. If you’re coming for Westminster week, this is the perfect Friday–Saturday warm-up before the 151st Westminster opens.
Why go
There is nothing else like it: top Toys judged at table height in a Manhattan ballroom, elbow-to-elbow with the fancy, the weekend before the sport’s biggest stage. For Toy exhibitors it’s two more groups toward the year’s totals; for spectators it’s the most intimate big-league dog show in America.
