What is Winterfest?
Winterfest is the January all-breed cluster hosted by two Southern California clubs — the San Fernando Kennel Club and the Los Encinos Kennel Club, Inc. — at the Ventura County Fairgrounds & Seaside Park. Three all-breed shows, three days, on the Ventura coast: it’s one of the first big outdoor-season weekends of the year and a fixture of the Southern California January circuit.
The fairgrounds host a full January run. The week before Winterfest, the Great Western Terrier Association of Southern California holds its Terrier-group show on Thursday, January 21, followed by the Kennel Club of Beverly Hills all-breed shows Friday–Sunday, January 22–24. Many exhibitors book two weeks in Ventura and show straight through.
The three days, day by day
All three shows run at the same venue — the Ventura County Fairgrounds & Seaside Park in Ventura:
- Fri, Jan 29 — All-breed show, day 1
- Sat, Jan 30 — All-breed show, day 2
- Sun, Jan 31 — All-breed show, day 3
Day-by-day club assignments, the judge panel, and any concurrent specialties will be in the premium list when it publishes.
Can you still enter?
Yes. As of mid-October 2026, entries are open. Entries close Wednesday, January 13, 2027, at the superintendent’s office — Jack Bradshaw Dog Shows. Entry fees have not been published yet; the premium list typically posts about five weeks before closing, so watch for it in mid-December.
See the full show page for the day-by-day schedule, the premium list when it posts, and entry details.
Planning your visit
The fairgrounds sit on the Ventura coast off Highway 101, about an hour northwest of Los Angeles. The nearest major airport is Los Angeles International (LAX). Host hotels for 2027 have not been announced yet — they’ll be listed in the premium list.
Why go
January in Ventura means ocean air, mild weather, and a fairgrounds full of dogs — Winterfest is the relaxed end of the Southern California January run, with three chances at majors in three days and the beach a few minutes away. If you’re chasing points early in the year, the two-week Ventura stretch (Beverly Hills then Winterfest) is one of the most efficient trips on the calendar.
