What is the Pug National Specialty?

Every year, the Pug Dog Club of America — the AKC’s parent club for the breed — hosts the one show that matters most to Pug people: its National Specialty. This year it’s a full six-day week in Topeka, Kansas, under the “Follow The Yellow Brick Road” theme — two regional specialties to open the week, sweepstakes, Junior Showmanship, obedience, rally, an onsite pug-only agility trial, and scent work, all at the Hotel Topeka At City Center.

The national specialty itself runs Friday and Saturday, November 6–7, with Mr. Timothy Catterson judging. He stepped in after Mr. Eugene Blake withdrew for health reasons — the club announced the change ahead of the show.

Why go?

If you love Pugs — or think you might want one — there is no better introduction than the national. You’ll see the breed’s full range in one week: show dogs in the ring, puppies in sweepstakes, juniors handling, obedience and rally teams, plus agility and scent work.
