What is the English Springer Spaniel National Specialty?
Every year, the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association — the breed's parent club — hosts one big event just for English Springer Spaniels. It is called the National Specialty, and the 2026 edition is a full week: four days of conformation (the national, Wednesday through Saturday) with sweepstakes, Junior Showmanship, the AKC National Owner-Handled Series, and a Pee Wee special attraction — plus two obedience trials and two rally trials.
Do not let the club's field-trial name fool you: the national week is a full conformation event, all classes judged on a ramp, limited to English Springer Spaniels. The field side gets its day too — a two-trial AKC spaniel hunt test on Monday, October 12, at Luckiamute Valley Pheasants in Monmouth, plus agility and scent work earlier in the week.

Why go?
Because this is the most English Springer Spaniels you will ever see in one place — the merry, bird-flushing breed at its biggest gathering of the year. For spectators, it is a rare chance to meet breeders, watch the country's top Springers up close, and learn about the breed from the people who know it best. For exhibitors, a full week — regionals, hunt test, agility, scent work, obedience, rally, sweepstakes, and the national — makes one trip do a whole season's work.
The host hotel is the Comfort Suites in Albany: $149 a night plus tax under the English Springer Spaniel Dog Show 2026 group (541-928-2053), with a $10-per-night fee for up to four dogs per room. The Holiday Inn Express next door ($159, $20/pet/night, max $100) was the overflow. October in the Willamette Valley means fall color — and everything at the expo center is indoors.
