What is the Chinese Shar-Pei National Specialty?

Every year, the Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America — the national parent club for the breed — hosts one big event just for Shar-Pei. It is called the National Specialty, and the 2026 edition stretches across five days with two regional specialties, national sweepstakes, futurity and maturity, obedience and rally trials, and the national specialty itself.

Unlike an all-breed show, everything here is Chinese Shar-Pei — the wrinkled breed with the blue-black tongue. Sunday, October 11 is move-in day with a puppy match and a judges education seminar; the week opens Monday with a welcome party.

Why go?

Because this is the most Shar-Pei you will ever see in one place — and a breed this distinctive is worth seeing in numbers. For spectators, it is a rare chance to meet breeders, watch the country's top dogs up close, and learn about the breed from the people who know it best. For exhibitors, five days of shows — two regionals, sweepstakes, futurity, obedience, rally, and the national — make one trip do a whole season's work.

The host hotel is the Delta Hotel by Marriott at $119 a night plus tax (940-247-7279 — mention the Chinese Shar-Pei group rate). Move-in is Sunday, October 11 from 9:00 AM, and ringside reserved seating is limited to 50.
