What is the Bull Terrier National Specialty?

Every year, the Bull Terrier Club of America — the AKC’s parent club for the breed — hosts the one show that matters most to Bull Terrier people: its National Specialty. This year it’s four days, October 29 through November 1, at the Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport Expo Center — indoors, unbenched, with show and hotel under one roof. Bull Terriers are judged in two varieties: Colored and White.

The week is built around more than the national itself. Thursday opens with the BTCA Specialty and the Futurity; Friday brings puppy and veteran sweepstakes plus obedience and rally; Saturday is Silverwood LVII, the club’s invitation-style competition and movement award; and Sunday is the national specialty, with Junior Showmanship and the 4–6 Month Beginner Puppy competition.

Friday, October 30: puppy and veteran sweepstakes, plus the obedience and rally trials.

Saturday, October 31: Silverwood LVII — the BTCA’s competition and movement award, with a separate entry form.

Sunday, November 1: the National Specialty — regular and non-regular classes in both varieties, Junior Showmanship, the 4–6 Month Beginner Puppy competition, and CGC testing.

Can I still enter?

No — entries closed October 7. All entries closed at 12:00 noon Central time on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Foy Trent Dog Shows, and no new entries can be accepted after the closing.

But you can still go. National specialties are open to spectators — and with the Futurity, Silverwood, and the national all in one building, Louisville is the center of the Bull Terrier world this week.

Why go?

If you love Bull Terriers — or think you might want one — there is no better introduction than the national. You’ll see both varieties at their best, puppies in the Futurity and sweepstakes, juniors handling, and obedience and rally teams. Silverwood, the club’s long-running competition and movement award, is a Saturday tradition worth seeing on its own. And because show and hotel share one roof, you never have to leave.
