What is the Bouvier des Flandres National Specialty?
Every year, the American Bouvier des Flandres Club — the national parent club for the breed — hosts one big event just for Bouviers. It is called the National Specialty, and the 2026 edition runs five days: two days of agility trials to open the week, then the national specialty Tuesday through Friday alongside obedience and rally trials.
Unlike an all-breed show, everything here is Bouvier des Flandres — conformation (the traditional dog show) plus the sports the breed was made for. The week ends on a high note: the Northeastern Illinois Bouvier des Flandres Club holds its regional specialty on Saturday, October 17, right next door.

Day by day
The week builds from speed to the show ring.
Monday, October 12 — agility day one. The agility trials open the week: Novice, Open, Excellent & Master JWW & Standard plus FAST, in one 90′×105′ indoor ring on soccer turf (350-run limit), judged by Don Farage, Jr. Trial secretary Michelle Frasca.
Tuesday, October 13 — agility plus the national begins. Agility trials continue, and the national specialty begins — conformation with obedience and rally trials, per the published 2026 judging program.
Wednesday–Friday, October 14–16 — the national. Three full days of the national specialty with obedience and rally trials at Purina Farms.
Saturday, October 17 — the regional. The Northeastern Illinois Bouvier des Flandres Club regional specialty (a separate event): Beth Downey judges breed; Jerry Sulewski judges sweepstakes.
Who's judging?
Don Farage, Jr. judges the Monday–Tuesday agility trials. The club's 2026 conformation premium was not published online, so the national's conformation judges come from the published 2026 judging program (Jack Onofrio Dog Shows) — check the program PDF for day-by-day ring assignments. Beth Downey judges the Saturday regional, with Jerry Sulewski on sweepstakes. Can you still enter?
No — entries are closed. The agility trials closed September 30, 2026 at 6pm Central, and entries for the national specialty with obedience and rally trials are also closed — the 2026 judging program is published. If you are already entered, the week is wide open for spectators — and if you are thinking about next year, the club has already announced the 2027 and 2028 nationals for Purina Farms, so mark your calendar early.
Why go?
Because this is the most Bouviers you will ever see in one place — the powerhouse herding breed that doubled as a police and military dog. For spectators, it is a rare chance to meet breeders, watch the country's top Bouviers up close, and see the breed do what it was built for: agility on the indoor turf Monday and Tuesday, then the show ring the rest of the week.
The show is indoors at Purina Farms, about 35 miles west of St. Louis. Traveling with an RV? Purina's RV lots are open October 11–18: $50/night (Row A), $45 (Row B), $40 (Rows C & D) in the full-service lot and $25/night in the electric-only lot — reservations went through the Purina RV office.
